SOURCES & FORECAST LIMITS

Where the forecast comes from.

By Daniel Siska, Siska Skywarn News · Guide reviewed October 17, 2026

Siska Skywarn brings local weather tools together for Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, Willow Spring, Angier and Lillington. The site is independent and is not affiliated with NOAA or the National Weather Service.

Which forecasts does the site use?

The current forecast tools use the National Weather Service and MET Norway. The comparison page calls MET Norway “European.” That label does not mean the displayed data is the ECMWF model.

When matching measurements are available for the same time and place, the site can show a two-source overview. A single-source label appears when only one provider supplies the needed value. Missing data is shown as unavailable rather than zero.

Compare the sources

Why can two forecasts disagree?

Forecast sources can update at different times and cover different periods. Check the location, timestamp and source label before comparing numbers. The site combines comparable samples, not every possible weather value. Agreement is useful context, not a guarantee or a measured accuracy percentage.

What does a rain percentage mean?

A rain probability refers to measurable precipitation at a point during the stated forecast period. It does not say what percentage of your visit will be wet. Do not add hourly percentages together. The fair planner reports the highest available period chance in your visit window; it does not calculate a new probability for the entire visit.

Read the NWS explanation of rain probability.

How should I use the 10-day outlook?

The daily cards use sampled temperature ranges, not full-day highs and lows. Today covers the remaining hours. Later days can have only one available source and more uncertainty. Check the hourly forecast again closer to an outdoor event rather than treating a distant photo or showing window as a promise.

Where does the measured rainfall come from?

The rainfall page uses dated observations from CoCoRaHS station NC-WK-391, Fuquay Varina 3.2 E. Its 24-hour and longer totals end at the station’s latest daily report. They are not live rainfall through this moment and do not measure every neighborhood or property.

See the gauge report and its dates.

Does radar show the future?

The radar page provides the existing Windy view and an in-page NWS backup. Radar observations and forecast guidance are different products. Read the map’s layer and timestamp; a forecast layer is not a radar observation.
