After the rain

Recent measured rain can help you decide what to look for on your next visit.

Standing water: the 48-hour follow-up

If water remains roughly 48 hours after rainfall has stopped, it is worth having the drainage evaluated, especially when pooling repeatedly occurs in the same place. This is a follow-up checkpoint, not a universal defect rule.

Soil, grading, recent rainfall and designed stormwater features affect drainage. A weather report cannot diagnose an individual property. Water entering a home or collecting against its foundation deserves prompt attention.

On your visit, note where water collects, visible runoff paths, gutter discharge and muddy access. Photograph concerns and ask the builder, inspector or a qualified drainage professional to evaluate them.

NC rain-garden guidance describes a 48-hour drainage target for that type of feature. NC State Extension: landscape and drainage planning.

Sources, availability & how the comparisons work

Forecasts are retrieved on the server and shared across visitors. They refresh approximately every 30 minutes when the site is in use, or later if a provider requires it. The page checks automatically while open. No weather account or paid API subscription is needed.

Times use real timestamps and America/New_York, including daylight saving changes. Requests use the selected community forecast point, rounded to four decimals. Forecast and solar calculations use that location. The observed rainfall gauge remains CoCoRaHS NC-WK-391 in Fuquay-Varina; its totals do not represent every community or property.

MET Norway becomes six-hourly farther out. We do not invent intervening hourly forecasts. Daily temperature ranges are the maximum and minimum of the same four UTC sample times within each local date, or remaining samples today. They can miss the actual daily high and low. Daily condition icons include wet weather forecast during the date. Daily precipitation appears only when the entire remaining local-date period is covered without splitting nonzero multi-hour totals. Daily rain chance is the peak available NWS probability, not an averaged all-day probability.

NWS precipitation is often a six-hour total; it is labeled separately and never averaged against an hourly amount. MET Norway currently supplies no rain probability or gusts for this location. The Photo Planner uses NWS rain risk and gusts, averages comparable temperature, wind and cloud values, and checks available hourly and multi-hour rainfall conservatively. Missing inputs reduce confidence and scores. Beyond available hourly rain-risk data, only the weather outlook and calculated sunlight information are shown.
